Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is one of the largest humanitarian and medical organizations in the world with projects in more than 70 countries. It focuses on providing emergency medical assistance to populations affected by wars, natural disasters or lack of basic health care.

Mapping and spatial analysis play an important role in MSF’s medical response. To address the lack of accurate, available geo-data that exists in many of the places where MSF works, the Missing Maps (MM) initiative was founded in 2014 by MSF, the American and British Red Cross and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team. It is an open, collaborative initiative that builds on the work of  more than 150 000 volunteers all over the world. Missing Maps presents a strong and even growing support for the MSF operations with very positive feedback.
